LHS Teacher of the Year - Jay Sansom

Congratulations to Jay Sansom - LHS 2011-2012 Teacher of the Year!J ay is very consistent with the students. He is an awesome coach and classroom teacher. He really is present for the students in ways that few teachers are. He is a supportive and kind colleague. He is honest and direct with his communications with administration, colleagues and students. He invests his time and personal generously with our kids! Jay mentors students in the classroom, on the soccer field and cross country course and in their entire high school life! Students look to him for guidance with everyday teenage issues, as well as post high school guidance. He organizes opportunities for his students to mentor elementary students and thereby teaches them to give back to the community, help other students, and ultimately help themselves. All this while also maintaining a very high success rate with grades and testing in his classes. He is a gifted and passionate teacher that exemplifies the philosophy of teaching the “whole child! Jay represents the founding principles of Lehman by connecting with kids. The bond he makes with students goes on long after high school is over. Many former students still keep in touch today and seek his advice. The respect he has earned from the students is seen in his classroom and on the field. He continues to challenge his students academically while maintaining a fun environment by adding his own sense of witty humor into his lectures.Jay is not only a mentor for students and athletes but also his fellow teachers. Teachers constantly ask Jay for advice and for his opinion as an experienced teacher with a great wealth of knowledge. You can even find him picking up trash at lunch trying to keep our school clean and interacting with the students. Jay epitomizes the qualities of an excellent teacher, coach, mentor for everyone on this campus. Congratulations, Jay!!!
The Lehman High School Student Council has received notification from the Texas Association of Student Councils that their group has been recognized by the state organization for having one of the most outstanding student councils in Texas. The LHS Student Council was awarded 'Outstanding Student Council', the 'Energy and Environment' Award, and the 'Community Service' award by the TASC. Less than 20% of all student councils win even one TASC award. The TASC made special note of Lehman's Student Council being awarded 3 such awards. The Lehman Student Council is sponsored by Karin Prado and Erin Powell. Congratulations to everyone involved in Student Council.
